[jfriends-ml 12297] CONTEXT

村山です.

ちょっと話題になってた"Context"の英語でのニュアンスについて,
「場の空気」にかなり近い概念と考えて良さそうです.

○Concise Oxford Thesaurus
CIRCUMSTANCES, conditions, factors,
state of affairs, situation,
background , scene, setting.

○Oxford Dictionary of English 2nd
"the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or
idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood."

"ORIGIN
late Middle English (denoting the construction of a text): from Latin
contextus, from con- 'together' + texere 'to weave'."

○Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 4th
"1	the situation, events, or information that are related to something
and that help you to understand it

2 the words that come just before and after a word or sentence and that
help you understand its meaning:

3 take/quote something out of context	to repeat part of what someone
has said or written without describing the situation in which it was said, so
that it means something quite different:"
